Happy Black Heritage Month. We are pleased to join in celebrating and highlighting Black excellence, visionary ministry leaders, emerging leaders, and leadership in all its forms across the National Convocation in this issue of SELAH.

Black History Month grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of historian Carter G. Woodson and others. In gratitude and celebration of the visionary leaders, leadership assets, and communities of faith that abound across the life of the National Convocation, this month, we gratefully feature the archival genius and distinguished service of May F. Reed, former Assistant Librarian, Curator, and Archivist, Disciples of Christ Historical Society, and honor the labor and care of professional archivists, and church historians.

The historical timeline below provides a deep dive into the layers of identity and aspiration that shaped the life and leadership of Preston Taylor, benefactor of African American Disciples, and founder of the National Christian Missionary Convention. Click on the pictures to access the timeline.
